About the Reporting Labs
PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs are classrooms, after-school programs and clubs around the country producing original, inspiring reports about how national and global issues affect local communities.
James "Jamie" Flanagan is a full-time teacher at Fraser High School, where he combines his passion for working with young people and broadcasting. He is an English teacher that advises for the yearbook, the school paper The Flash (FHSTheFlash.com) and the broadcast classes.
His broadcast students have won several “Pillars of Excellence” from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. They are also a proud part of the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs project.
Jamie is a weekend DJ at 96.3 WDVD, Detroit’s leading Hot AC Station. He produces a nationally syndicated talk show called Animal Talk that exists as a podcast. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, his Masters in Education at Wayne State and a Journalism Endorsement from Michigan State University; he has no idea what team sweatshirt to wear.
